Negative Scanning Services - San Jose, San Francisco Bay Area, CA Audio Video Workshop can scan your 35mm negatives into high-resolution digital computer files so that you can archive, reprint, email, share, and enjoy them all over again! Each negative is cleaned and scanned by hand with our Nikon 5000 high resolution transparency film scanners. We scan your 35mm negatives into 2000dpi or 4000dpi digital images. Typically, we scan into high quality JPEG files due to their efficiency. However, we can scan your 35mm negatives into TIFF files if you prefer. We recommend our Enhanced Scan which includes dust removal, color correction, brightness / contrast improvement, cropping, de-skewing and picture orientation. In addition, we can scan medium format negatives as well as large format negatives. We also offer slide scanning, photo scanning and photos to DVD (photo montage). 2000 dpi vs. 4000 dpi

2000 dpi – 2000 dpi (ppi) is great for on-screen viewing, archiving and making prints from your slides up to 5”x7”

4000 dpi – 4000 dpi (ppi) is great for archiving your slides and is extremely important if you plan on zooming in or making prints up to 10”x14”

Negative Scanning FAQ

How should I prepare my negatives? - You can provide your negatives in their original envelopes, sheets / binders. Also, you can take your negatives out of their original sleeves and put them in ziploc bags for us. If you would like to have separate folders created based on the various envelopes or sheets, please provide the label info neatly printed out. We will create a unique folder per envelope in the order you specify. Continue Reading
How long does 500 negatives take? - Depending on our current workflow, 500 negatives usually takes approx 3-4 weeks (maybe longer depending on existing work in-shop and size of order) for us to scan, enhance, and output.
Can you scan certain frames within a 35mm strip? - No, we scan every frame within a strip. We cannot scan a portion or 1 frame out of a strip of 6. If a strip has 4 frames, we scan and charge for 4 scans.
Can I cut individual frames out of a 35mm strip and give them to you to scan? - No, we need a minimum of 3 35mm frames for our scanners to feed / work properly.
How do I use a USB Flash Drive to view my files? - We have a step by step guide here.
If you provide my drive, how many drives will I receive? - You will receive one single drive that all your media will fit on! We carry 16gb all the way through 2TB
